Crowdswell was facing a user acquisition challenge. Their design was strong and visually cohesive, but visitors weren’t converting into users.

ABOUT THE APP

Crowdswell is an online community to crowdfund social innovation initiatives for civic good.

Users can find a tool to promote their activist vein and put it to work. It allows them to find a community that shares the same dedication to social change.

DESIGNING AN ACTION PLAN

Our scope was to increase Crowdswell's user engagement by understanding users’ expectations and simplifying the app.

PHASE 1

Understanding the Users' Behavior

Through Business Origami and Journey Mapping we were able to identify,

  • There are two main ways of encouraging actor, commitment, depending on the targeted emotion:
    • Individuals respond to emotion;
    • The private sector responds to professionalism.
  • Smaller organizations struggle for a chance as the public sector already takes on similar, but oftentimes insufficient, projects.
  • Organizations and their campaigns are not taken seriously unless they are perceived to be well-organized and stable.

PHASE 2

Redefining Crowdswell Based on User Research

In 1 on 1 interviews with Shopwell users we discovered the process of creating a campaign should,

  • Encourage the audience to move from a simple social activity such as liking or sharing to real action.
  • Raise awareness through the development of an emotional connection and a sense of belonging.
  • Project stability and formality through a strong visual identity.
  • Show the problem’s full spectrum by presenting both the background and the desired solution to the situation.

PHASE 3

Improving Crowdswell's User Acquisition

Our UX Research unveiled insights to implement new features that transformed ShopWell into a more intuitive app by,

  • Displaying the information via a storytelling approach by using a dashboard that prompts the users to complete the process one step at a time.
  • Redesigning the campaign (Swell) display, emphasizing the organization’s logo for reliability.
  • Adding a sense of urgency with a countdown highlighting the days, hours and minutes left to go.

Understanding the users' behavior increases an app acquisition rate

Crowdswell was able to acquire more users once we started making data-driven decisions based on our UX Research.
